Make the synapses snap with new experiences. A day designed to take children out of their comfort zones, opening them up to self development through testing themselves, problem solving and discovery .

Oh, I love a bit of community.  Yummy yum yum community things and stuff.

This girl is a flippin' gem, so much so they named her Gemma.  Here she is with a matching t-shirt and hair accessory.  Did the locals approve?  I think the look on his face says it all!

Failure is learning.

5,124 prototypes later, James Dyson succeeded.

The Text Block element is a smart combination with both a header and paragraph, to help you create cohesive, uniform sections on a page. Easily drag and drop a Text Block onto your canvas and then edit properties such as font, position, color, fill etc. to complement your design.

CELEBRATION

25th July @ Suggz

We'll be blowing the horns and donning the party hats in aid of Jamie making it one step closer to death ..that's right, DEATH!.

Something about brains. It'll all be good. Following the link and read things, or watch the video if you can't be bothered.

A Do a Day ...that is all!

AND REMEMBER

#VEGPLEDGE

CHOOSE ONE THING TO

DO A DAY!

1. GIVE A LITTLE SOMETHING TO OTHERS

My colleague gave me a spare watch the other day after mine broke.  A small thing to her but a problem solver for me.

It’s the little that can affect the large for others.  It’s not always about money.  Be helpful; be kind.

Take an item to a charity shop or donate some time as a volunteer.

Have you got something that you can give?

2. CONTACT SOMEONE YOU'VE NOT SPOKEN TO FOR A YEAR

We all have those people; friends and family that for one reason or another we don’t see as often.

Time flies but it’s never too late for a catch up.

Go on, it’ll break up your busy schedule and might brighten up that persons day too. Two birds, one stone.

3. TAKE YOURSELF OFFLINE

Are you lost without your phone?  Addicted to scrolling Facebook?  Stuck in that game the whole journey home?

It’s time to discover what else is out there; the world!

Disconnect yourself for one day and allow other things to creep in; chatting, music, art, nature, a food treat for the way home.  They’re all out there.  Time to discover.

4. BE WILD

The scenic route doesn’t have to be a euphemism for getting lost.  Do it on purpose! There’s a whole world

around us to be discovered.

Take the leafy walk; a bike ride out of town; a pub on the canal – mix it up.  They’ll be gems of nature round

your area.  I dare you to ask your neighbour where they’ve stumbled across a gem of nature.

5. EXPLORE THE KITCHEN

Be your own Michelin chef.

That dish you had at the restaurant the other day, delicious right?  Try it out for yourself.  Look up the recipe and get in that kitchen.

So you’re no Blumenthal? So what?

It’s a human need to eat food and your desire to make it delicious. So keep those eyes open for new recipe, those ears poised for new cooking techniques but most importantly keep that mouth wide open for all those new exciting tastes.

5 WAYS YOU CAN TACKLE THAT

MONDAY FEELING!

1. ENGAGE

WITH SOMEONE

ON THE COMMUTE

Okay, so I made you cringe right?  You don’t have to be that person who divulges their life into the ear of the awkwardly sat person opposite.  Just the odd thing will take the edge off your Monday.

Power walking through the barriers at Finchley station the other day I was halted by the words of the TfL gate inspector, “Have a good day”, he said. I was in a hurry, no time to loose, train to catch, errands to run, but for a split second I thought …I will, thank you!

2. A 'GOOGLE DAYDREAM'

( OTHER TECH COMPANIES ARE AVAILABLE )

We get stuck in a problem, a never ending task, but sometimes you just can’t see the wood for the trees.

Take what some term a Google daydream.  Have your coffee somewhere different.  Take in the scenery.  Let your mind wander. They say you should spend 20% of your time doing this to help clear your head, mull things over and then return to a task.

Tech company Atlasssian hit the headlines with their Ship-it Days. 24 hours; a day of company time to work on their own technology project with no limitations or brief. The quarterly day has now inspired 597 new products for Atlasssian.

3. GET ACTIVE

We all know it to be true.  Get that body moving; pumping the blood round the body; raise that heart rate. It creates mood boosting endorphins.

If you’re not sure what to start with, pop along to a class.  Get together with a friend in a competitive activity.  You

might find something you really enjoy.

4. WEAR SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Our clothes affect the way we feel.  We’ve heard the “I’ll just slip into something more comfortable” quote.  I just like to pop me armies on sometimes…

Clothes make us powerful, sexy, comfortable, sleazy or ready for action.  Change your dress to change your approach.  Impress with some sharp shoes or be comfortable and confident with your ideas in smart casual.

5. ADD MUSIC

INTO YOUR DAY

I once started playing music during my morning shower.  I now can’t get on if I haven’t been battered by a hot shower to the sound of an upbeat tune.

Power ballads to solidify a passion in your soul.  Classical to help focus the mind. Even just a bit of dance music to help bounce you to the station.

In OUR TURN

In YOUR TURN

1. DRESS TO IMPRESS

My colleague gave me a spare watch the other day after mine broke.  A small thing to her but a problem solver for me.

It’s the little that can affect the large for others.  It’s not always about money.  Be helpful; be kind.

WHAT IS A DO A DAY?

WHAT IS A DO A DAY?

SHARPEN YOUR BRAIN

WHATEVER YOUR AGE

3. STOP GOOGLING EVERYTHING

Never before have we had such information at our fingertips.  But is curiosity killing our brain cells?

Flitting from topic to topic on the internet gives us a lot of titbits that don't really stick in our memory.

Look at subjects further... search out a book, an online seminar or an opposing argument - really understand the issues. It boosts your memory and knowledge, and your brain will thank you for giving it some exercise.

4. LEARN A LANGUAGE

People used to think that learning a language would create confusion in the mind.  In fact, when we learn a language, the language centres in the brain grow.

Bilingualism aids memory, listening skills, problem solving and decision making.  It staves off dementia and develops your perception of the world.

5. EAT OLIVES AND NUTS

Olives and nuts are both rich in Vitamin E, which could make your brain feel 10 years younger!

The components that make up Vitamin E are brilliant antioxidants and our brains consume a massive amount of oxygen.  Vitamin E protects the cell membranes from oxidative damage from free radicals.

So, go on!  Get some olives annuls down ya!

6. PRACTISE YOGA

More than just ironing out the kinks in your back, yoga has been proven to boost your cognitive ability.

Now we all know that physical activity is like turning the ignition key on the brain, but yoga will help you out perform your treadmill buddies at Trivial Pursuit.

A 2013 study shows that Yogis have a superior somatosensory cortex, parietal cortex and hippocampus, increasing coordination, focus and the ability to cope with stress.

So when it comes to the hard questions, you'll be ready to answer.

2. WALK TWO MILES A DAY

This is about exploring our environment.  Get out there and take it in.

Not only do you get some respite, but the new environment boosts your information handling ability - add in a familiar task you've been working on and you are at your leaning optimum.

7. GOOD SLEEP HYGIENE

We have all felt the effects of not getting enough sleep.  Grumpy, snappy, unreasonable, unable to think logically - I'm a nightmare when I'm sleep deprived.

Studies suggest sleep clears our brains of toxins that build up while we're awake - the same toxins that build up in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.

Not only does sleep help us remember and consolidate our experiences, but it boosts our ability to solve complex problems 3-fold by literally making new connections in the brain whilst getting rid of the ones we don't use.  Sleep is like an auto clean button for the brain.

Most sources recommend between 7 and 8 hours sleep.

So, give your brain a clean! Get your 8 hours!

8. STOP MULTITASKING

Your brain can't really complete one task to the best of its ability if you are forcing it to think about others.  In the end, it will take you longer to complete any task to the standard you want.

One touted method is 25 minutes or real focus followed by 5 minutes of something unrelated.  It allows time to really analyse a task before giving your brain a breather ahead of its next challenge.
